The betta
] (pronounced "better"), also known as the siamese fighting fish, is a popular aquarium fish from the gourami family. The males of the species are prized among collectors for their brilliant colouration and often flamboyantly large fins.
Individual bettas are housed alone in their tanks and jars as they are fiercely territorial and so aggressive that they will not tolerate the presence of another and will even attack their own reflection.
