note to The Museum of Natural History
The poem is in part inspired by dialogue overheard from the National Geographic Channel's "World's Weirdest: Freaks in the Ocean" produced by National Geographic Television. Specifically the line "Whether the goal is camouflage, confusion or copulation..."
