note to Cast away
Cast away is based on the Gardner Island hypothesis of the disappearance of aviator Amelia Earhart. That Earhart and navigator Fred Noonan had crashlanded on Gardner Island (now Nikumaroro, part of the Republic of Kiribati) and been castaway before eventually, perishing.
Her aircraft on that fateful round-the-world attempt was a Lockeed Electra 10E.
